Description

The Eselriet school complex is located on the southwestern edge of the settlement area of Effretikon, where the built environment transitions into the surrounding landscape, characterized by forested slopes and agricultural land. The building ensemble, constructed in 1974, features a cohesive architectural design typical of its era. Oriented towards the south and defined by a precise building outline, it integrates harmoniously into its natural setting. Functionally differentiated building wings are arranged around a central schoolyard, forming a unified overall composition.
The project involves the extension of the school complex through the construction of a compact new building directly attached to the existing sports hall. The existing structures and the extension will be combined into a coherent and integrated facility. A generous and clearly organized entrance area will be created from Sportplatzstrasse.
The new building accommodates the extensive spatial requirements of the school, the day-care facilities, and the local sports clubs under one roof. The access and vertical circulation system enables both interconnected use and independent operation by the various user groups. Two separate entrances open the building and clearly separate the different functions. A main staircase and elevator provide access to all floors and connect all parts of the building.
The second and third floors share a consistent floor plan layout. On the second floor, four classrooms and the intermediate group rooms form a learning cluster around a central common area and cloakroom zone. The third floor accommodates therapy and speech therapy facilities, as well as the rooms of the educational support center.
The basement houses a multi-purpose room with direct access to the sports hall. A staircase and elevator connect this room to the kitchen and the communal spaces on the ground floor.
