Description

The Eselriet school complex is located on the southwestern edge of the settlement area of Effretikon, at the transition to the surrounding landscape, flanked by forests and agricultural land. The building ensemble, dating from 1974, is characterized by a coherent architectural language typical of its time. Oriented towards the south, it integrates into its natural surroundings with a clearly defined outline. Functionally distinct building wings are arranged around a central schoolyard, forming a cohesive overall composition.
The project involves the extension of the school complex through the construction of a compact new building directly attached to the existing sports hall. The existing and new structures are combined to form a coherent and integrated facility. A wide and clearly organized entrance area will be created from Sportplatzstrasse, improving accessibility and orientation.
The new building accommodates the extensive space requirements for school operations, day-care services, and local sports clubs under a single roof. Its access and vertical circulation system allows both shared use and independent operation by the different user groups. Two separate entrances open up the building and help to separate the various functions. A central staircase and elevator provide access to all floors and connect all parts of the building.
The second and third floors follow a consistent layout concept. On the second floor, four classrooms and intermediate group rooms form an educational cluster around a central common area and cloakroom zone. The third floor accommodates therapy and speech therapy rooms, as well as facilities for the support and learning centre.
The basement houses a multipurpose room with direct access to the sports hall. A staircase and elevator connect this space with the kitchen and communal facilities on the ground floor.
