Kultur- und Begegnungszentrum Uster im Zeughaus, BKP 421 «Gärtnerarbeiten»

Description

The planned cultural and community centre development complements the existing northeastern «Zeughaus K2» with two new buildings: the «Kultursaal» and the «Kulturregal». The eastern forecourt of K2 forms the arrival area of the cultural centre. Visitor parking, bicycle shelters and delivery areas are located on this side. Through their positioning, K2, the Kultursaal and the Kulturregal define a courtyard space. This newly created area can be used for events, drinks receptions and similar functions, thereby extending the adjacent interior spaces. To the south of the new buildings, a staircase and a ramp lead down to the original ground level and the existing outdoor space of the «KUZU», which will be retained. The lawn and paved areas provide space for large events (such as H2U or the medieval market), while also allowing for smaller-scale uses. The western side provides vehicular access to the site from Zürichstrasse for both cars and trucks. To the west of the Kultursaal, a retention area is planned for the temporary storage of roof runoff. At the centre of this retention area stands the old «Kegelbunker». These additions to the cultural centre form part of a master plan for the entire Zeughaus site. The neighbouring plot to the west will also be developed with new buildings in the coming years. The cultural centre is to remain operational during the construction period.
